Intro

Slime Blime is a cooperative adventure board game that promotes teamwork, patience, turn-taking, and teaches young people the joys and pains of progress through numerous advances and setbacks. The most important thing that Slime Blime teaches is teamwork and sacrifice as players ultimately may have to remove themselves from a safe situation to help a friend in need.

Story

When Jack, the Industrial Hygienist discovers a strange slime spreading across the world, he embarks on an adventure to figure out the link between the mysterious slime and the increasingly intense natural disasters across the globe. Now, he and his fellow heroes must travel the world to find eight magical runes that can restore the Earth’s balance, deal with the slime, and save the planet before four nefarious villains use the slime to take over the world! Get ready for this fun, cooperative game for all ages, that teaches risk management and sacrifice. This game was created by the minds of a two and four year old and targeted specifically to young, creative,  and imaginative spirits. Gear up to explore the globe, get active (and maybe a bit sticky) and save the world before it’s too late!

Backstory

During the 2020 COVID Pandemic, two young children ages 2 and 4 years old began rambling about a game that they thought would be “cool” to make. Naturally, as a a product developer and advocate for young minds, I decided to take them 100% seriously and encourage them to flesh out their ideas. What began as me vigorously writing down every crazy idea the boys came up with very quickly evolved into a well thought out, complex, fun, and meaningful game. Over the next two years, the three of us began prototyping the game now called Slime Blime until it evolved to its current state.

Design

Initial Conception

The earliest concepts of the game started from audio recordings of the boys throwing ideas out on our many car rides. They would go on and on and, as usual, I’d ask questions to get them to think and keep talking but rarely offered any ideas of my own. From there, we brainstormed their ideas and tried to organize them:

Once the rough design and concept of the game was discussed. We focused on actual level design. It was agreed upon by the boys that this game would be a cooperative game that featured four (4) different playable zones/worlds. Each zone would have its own traps, difficulty level, power ups, etc. however, the goal was to be the same. The zones were as follows:

• Coral Reef Zone
• Swamp Zone
• Race Track Zone
• Jungle Zone

Objective

Each player is to traverse their zone, collecting powerups and meeting “at the helipad” in the middle while avoiding getting caught by the slime blasters, ooze, the “bad guys”, and a host of boobie-traps. Once all players have successfully arrived at the helipad, all players can leave and win the game. If a player gets stuck in a trap, or slime, other players must traverse their own zone and go into their partner’s zone to rescue them. From there, both players must escape the zone and meet in the middle in order to escape and win.

Characters

Slime Blime has multiple protagonists, each complete with their own theme and backstory. The protagonists are as follows:

• Won 1, the Doctor – a biologist and scientist that discovered the mysterious slime. He is trying to “get to the bottom” of the whole situation using his science mind and help from his friends.
• Paulie, the Pirate – a good Pirate who sails the seas looking for adventure. Her ship was destroyed when the mysterious slime appeared in the water and destroyed it. Now she is trying to figure out where the slime came from and how to stop it.
• Pike-Pike, the Hiker – a hiker from the mountains. She loves adventure and noticed slime appearing on the cliffs of her town. She is investigating where it came from so she can go back to hiking without worrying about slime getting in her way and killing the plants.
• Tun Tun, the Diver – a marine biologist that noticed mysterious slime appearing in the ocean floor killing the animals. He is trying to stop the animals from dying and keep the oceans clean.
• Crocodilia – A crocodile creature who lives in the swamp. She noticed mysterious slime polluting her swamp and wants to put a stop to it.
• Stunter – A race car driver who had his race interrupted when slime burst out of the ground like a volcano. Stunter loves risky things, so he went to go find out what’s happening.
• Jack -an industrial hygienist who noticed some environmental disturbances when researching the Earth. He is the main character and is teaming up with others to help stop the slime.

Progress

We’ve created a first prototype for this project and are ready to get move towards more large scale printing, marketing, and distribution. Here’s a list of what we need to do in order to get this game fully ready for its initial release.

Risks and challenges

The great thing here is that most of this is already done. We just need help to move this project into production after some more prototyping and play testing. We just want the ability to get the vision of these two young creators and into the hands of other fun-loving children’s hands.
